TIM BARNICLE’S DEBUT EP “THE FIX IS IN” DROPS TODAY
“THE FIX IS IN,” the debut EP by singer/songwriter Tim Barnicle, drops today, June 23, via Jungle Strut Music, a subsidiary of Sony’s The Orchard.
“THE FIX IS IN” features six original songs, written by Boston-born Barnicle, ranging from country to grunge, fused with rock ‘n roll.
“Donald’s Song” is a take on the personality of the 45th President, written the morning after the election. “Election Day” is a dystopian take on the current and future political climate with dark lyrics.
The EP’s opener, “Dirty Cop” falls into the noir-pulp grunge subgenre, inspired in part by the works of one of Barnicle’s favorite authors, Elmore Leonard. The more jovial “1244” pays homage to the residence of Barnicle’s college years, while “Where Have You Gone” was written as a song with a “hummable country chorus” that would “get the crowd moving.” The last song on the EP, “Piano John,” was Barnicle’s first full-length composition.
The sum of the parts results in a sampler of Barnicle’s artistic intent: “To make you think and feel, but ultimately have a good time,” he said.
The EP was produced by Ryan Rumery (Arlo Hannigan, Jeremy Bass, The Whales Tales) and recorded in Van Nuys, California, at the historic New Monkey Studio, which has been restored since it was owned by Elliott Smith in the last years of his life. The recording features multi-instrumentalist Nick Luca, who has worked with artists such as Calexico, Iron & Wine, M. Ward and Neko Case.
The EP will come to life this summer when performed by Tim & The Tall Boys in New York City.
Tour dates and information can be found at timbarnicle.com.
A recent graduate of Georgetown University, where he majored in American Studies, Barnicle began playing guitar in college and started writing his first songs shortly thereafter. He also studied at the Williamstown Theater Festival and co-hosts a nationally broadcast podcast, “How I Got Here,” available on iTunes via PodcastOne, featuring notable personalities from sports, entertainment, news and pop culture. Barnicle lives in Brooklyn.
